Register for HackMIT by Friday, Aug 13 🌿
THIS JUST IN: the deadline to register for HackMIT has been extended by 1 week until Friday, August 13 at 11:50 PM ET! Answers to frequently asked questions are available on our website, and if you have any other questions about the registration process or about HackMIT as an event, email us at help@hackmit.org.
Pandemic Semantics 🤖
Unfortunately due to COVID and the Delta variant, we’re sad to announce that we must restrict in-person HackMIT hackers to MIT students only. After consulting internally with our team as well as with MIT admin, we decided that this was the best way to minimize the risk to all of our hackers and guests under the current circumstances.
Of course, we are still committed to bringing all hackers — in-person or virtual — the best hackathon experience possible! Holding a hybrid hackathon will be a new experience for us organizers too, but we’re super excited for you all to see what we have in store. Thanks for bearing with us as we continue to navigate these ~unprecedented times~
Annual HackMIT puzzle releases next week 🧩
As in previous years, HackMIT is releasing an admissions puzzle on our website this summer! Sharpen your wits and gather your resourcefulness, because the top hackers who solve the puzzle will also be granted admission to HackMIT 2021.
If you’d want to register with a team, every team member has to solve the puzzle to be granted admission as a puzzler. Thus, we highly recommend that any students interested in attending HackMIT 2021 submit an application at hackmit.org, regardless of whether or not they plan to attempt the puzzle.
As always, feel free to email us at help@hackmit.org if you have any questions or concerns — or just if you’d like to appreciate our hard working devs :)
Engage with our community 🐼
We've started a hacking community Discord server! We hope to build a space where hackers from all backgrounds are able to connect and share projects with each other. Join here and find teammates for hackathons, learn about exciting opportunities, and even bond in upcoming community events!
Next, we invite you to check out our team’s recent Medium articles! In Michael’s article, he reflects on all of the different kinds of emails we receive in the HackMIT inbox; in Jess’ and Angela’s article, they discuss our marketing team’s annual design cycle for HackMIT. You can find more Medium articles written by HackMIT organizers from past years here! They cover a wide range of stories, from our various tech projects to how our team turned HackMIT into a successful virtual event.
Finally, we'd like to spotlight a member of the HackMIT organizing team — our amazing Head of Marketing, Jess!
Hihi, I’m Jess, and I’m this year’s marketing head for HackMIT! I joined Hack last fall as a freshman looking for something to do with her time, and I’m really happy that I did :) I initially joined the marketing department and then also expanded to the dev department for my second semester. Hack has given me the opportunities to meet so many cool people, improve on my (lackluster) Adobe Illustrator skills, and learn web development—as well as increase my absolute passion for graphic design :^) I’m really grateful for everything that I’ve been able to learn as both a member and head as well as for all the friends that I've made. During meetings, I love hearing everyone’s unique ideas and working together to bring our event to life. Needless to say, I’m super excited for this year’s hybrid Hack and looking forward to experiencing it semi-in-person for the first time alongside the rest of team and hackers!

Neurodiversity in the Workplace connects qualified neurodivergent talent to career opportunities with inclusive employers. We use computers to trade on markets around the world, and have teams that deal with everything from research and strategy development to hardcore C++, low latency coding. This all takes place in our open and collaborative environment, where idea sharing is not only encouraged, but valued as a critical part of our success and a reinforcer of our friendly, welcoming culture. We look forward to attending HackMIT! If you’re interested in full-time or internship opportunities with us, you can find all of our open roles on our campus recruiting page.
Sia is a decentralized cloud storage platform. Thanks to its permissionless storage marketplace, Sia can deliver cloud storage that is cheaper, faster, and more secure than traditional providers. The Sia network is maintained by the Sia Foundation, a non-profit entity. Currently, the Foundation is working to upgrade Sia's consensus algorithm with its much-anticipated "Utreexo" hardfork, which will make it dramatically easier for anyone to run a fully-validating consensus node.
Two Sigma is a financial sciences company, combining data analysis, invention, and rigorous inquiry to help solve the toughest challenges in investment management, insurance technology, securities, private equity, and venture capital.
